Breakfast on the Bridge Friday

It was a beautiful day for Breakfast on the Bridge today.  The air had a hint of chill to it.  How long has it been since that has happened?  Is our long hot summer drawing to a close?  The beautiful weather brought out  lots of bikes and people to enjoy the walking bridge and breakfast.

The view was exceptional this morning.  The reflection of the Market Street Bridge  was clear and sharp upon the smooth as glass  river .
And there was an interesting cloud formation over Lookout Mountain. Keith, a breakfast attendee, identified it as a lenticular cloud formation.  Lenticular clouds are called that because they are shaped like a lens.  It is theorized that many UFOs  sightings are actually lenticular cloud formations.

What a treat to be in a spot to take notice of such things.  Thanks, Keith, for pointing me into the direction of more information.

A Tragic Breakfast

Breakfast on the bridge is always interesting. This morning though had a tragic aspect to it as those of us on the Walnut Street Bridge were witness to the aftermath of a suicide jump from the Market Street Bridge. We watched as she and would be rescuers were pulled out of the river. While it was dramatic, the sense of sadness is great. I don't know who she was and what was her story, but my heart goes out to the woman and her family. This kind of interesting we can do without.

On the lighter side, we are always inviting people as they go by to stop for coffee. Reactions are greatly varied, with some people stopping and others not. This guy though immediately perked up and stopped at the mention of coffee.

It turns out to be Andrew Gage, who is starting up a coffee roastery in the business development center. His coffee, which he is calling Velo Coffee, will be sold in Greenlife starting next week. And as you can tell from the name, he is an avid cyclist and hopes to start a coffee delivery service by bike. He has offered to supply some coffee for our breakfast. How wonderful! So people, come out next Friday for a taste of Velo Coffee!

Beer and Biscuits

Yesterday it turned nice and warm. What a feeling! People were turning outside like ants from a disturbed nests. I can't remember the last time we had such an extended spell of cold weather and the the build up of the pent up feeling was ready to burst!.
On the ride from work was like I had been let out of school for summer. A small group of us cyclist found ourselves converging into a group on Market Street. Where did we all come from? I love when groups of cyclists come together like that. It means Chattanooga is reaching a critical mass of bicycles on the road if we are finding ourselves clumping together. I hope this is a harbinger of a numbers explosion of bikes in the spring.
I was on my was to meet Q at Greenlife. Laura Jane and Jeremy were two of the cyclists that joined me on Market and they were on their way to Greenlife also. And they ended up  joining Q and I. I loved their dinner of beer and biscuits! Ah, to be young!
